Voice Search
About a year ago they launched their voice search, originally only for iPhones, yet over time they’ve increase the number of handsets that the system can function on. The voice file is streamed into Google’s data centre where it is converted into a text search through advanced software. The results are sent back to your phone. Have a look at the examples on this page: Google Voice Search for Blackberry.
Site Search
Google Googles is Google’s answer to site searches. This incredible system uses image analysing technology to decipher pictures and identify the content. You can send an image of a landmark, such as Table Mountain or the Eifel Tower through and get a full search result back with all the info you can think of. You can even submit a photo of an artwork to find out what it’s called and who painted it. It’s still very much in the experimental phase and is only available on the Google phones at the moment, yet it won’t be long until it’s widely used.
So how do you take advantage of these new searches to bring you or your clients more business? I think the easiest way of targeting all three is by simply ensuring your site is search engine friendly, well indexed in Google and then submitting your location details to the Google Local Business Centre. This is a great start and will integrate with the entire array of location-based search entities.
