Sponsored links, Whats the story?

Written by Thom Henderson
Contact Go Fish for Online CPC MarketingThe millions of searches done everyday require fair marketing practices by google to give people and businesses the opportunity to make something from everyday searches. Also considering that something like 97% of Google revenue comes from advertising.

These come in the form of sponsored links, or otherwise known as cost per click (CPC) advertising. This gives the user the ability to place an ad for his product or service and google will guarantee (should your bid be high enough) that the advert will show when the enduser makes a search using a keyword that the advertiser has chosen. This of course has plenty of options to chip and change when it comes to your budget, time of day, location etc. But google finds a way to make sure that the fairest possible opportunity is available to anyone wishing to advertise their product or service on the web.

“fantastic” is what you are thinking. I’m going to make an advert right now to sell my products. Lets just stop and do some more research before you jump in head first and end up overspending your budget at the wrong time, and at the wrong customers.

Your advert needs to be optimised. Google offers tons of literature on how to optimise your adverts but one of the key ways to attract users is to have a title that is specific, to the point and has information on the product, the service and possible a call to action such as “10% sale today only” or “special offer to first 100 customers”. These words do wonders for your campaign but again you must optimise the advert in the other areas, which we will get to later.

Google adwords is a fair institution and depending on your budget and the market you are in, you can be assured that the right people are clicking on your link. A fair marketing platform is the solution google is trying to provide for marketers of any product or service. So improve your ad text and titles to make sure you are targeting your customers specifically. Vague descriptions will only devour your budget before you have made a single conversion. Be wary of your keywords as well. The best content and best ways of attracting the right types of users is a fine art within the adwords system and it will take time and practice before you see a Return on Investment. With the right expertise you can be guaranteed of it.
