future trading. It is one of a limited number of investment areas where one can make a large amount of money with limited capital in a relatively short amount of time. However, due to the fact that many people lose a lot of money,
future trading has garnered a bad reputation as being too big a risk for the ordinary person to afford. The reality of the situation is, though, that commodity trading is only as risky as you decide to make it.
The individuals who treat trading as a get rich quick scheme is setting themselves up to fail miserably, as they need to take huge risks. If one is practical and approaches trading as a business and not a huge casino, the inevitability of success is imminent. The trading of commodities also referred to as
future trading, are unlike any other types of investments such as stocks or bonds. It is important to realize though, that when you trade with futures, you do not actually buy or own anything. You are merely speculating on the future direction the price will take in the commodity you are trading. It is the same as a bet on the commodity’s future price direction. The terms ‘buy’ and ‘sell’ are only an indication of the direction you expect future prices to take.
Say you are speculating, for instance, with corm. You would buy a futures contract if you suspected the price would be going up in the future. Or, you would sell a futures contract if you thought the price would go down. For every trade, there must always be a buyer and a seller. Yet neither person has to own any corn to participate in the transaction. He only needs to deposit adequate capital with a brokerage firm to act as insurance that he will be able to pay the losses if his trade loses money.
In order to be successful at
future trading, one needs to enter into it level-headed, and well educated. Take the time to learn about the markets and the process of future trading to ensure that you don’t take unnecessary risks, and lose all your investment capital instead of seeing a return on your hard earned money.
